the story behind this record begins in 2004 on newbury street in boston massachusetts. juice belushi founding member paul foley is dressed head to toe in 80s regalia, including vest, fingerless leather gloves, fedora and chain connecting nose-ring to ear pierce. its like a scene out of michael jacksons bad, minus the dancing. at his feet is a boom box blasting freestyle and 80s electro-funk, hes handing out mix cds. needless to say we were intrigued!

brett johnson makes his second appearance on the mighty visionquest imprint with a superbly nuanced ep the secret place. packed full of rhythmic and melodic complexities, johnson embarks on a supersonic head trip for the senses. lead track the awakening is awash with eerie keys and a building framework of warping fx, clicks and bleeps, all pulled together by the emphatic groove. on the flip, voyage 34 feat. ryan is a rolling, hypnotic and futuristic odyssey with the tougher edge of techno and ryans creepy, disembodied voice. finally you can count on me indulges in an intricate, percussive groove with glitchy machine tech funk.

a very welcome back to canadas common edits! on the a side, label head honcho dane, teams up with the newcomer khotin for *josephinas groove*. the bassline takes the lead on this spaced out slice of funk, spread thick with tight drums and keys.

hot natured release two remix 12 inches of tracks from their acclaimed album *different sides of the sun*. part one kicks off with a remix of *benediction* from the rapidly emerging uk house producer lxury. anticipation is building after annie mac premiered the lxury remix of *benediction* on radio one. lxury is the producer behind *we do* and *j.a.w.s.*, which were both released on disclosures method records. also on the a side is edu imbernons superb remix of emerald city. he darkens the tone of the original and drives it head long onto the dance floor! on the flip and eats everything ups the acid count and squelches alternate state into a state of dancefloor pandemonium. whilst hrdvsion spins it out, cutting the vocal up to excellent effect, and then jacking the groove.

next up on crazylegs, two fiendishly addictive garage cuts - and the first vocal material on our label - from a young veteran of the uk underground, wolverhamptons trc. one of the key players in the late-2000s bassline scene and more recently a prolific grime producer, trcs crazylegs debut sees him on dazzling form: crisp 2-step drums, trademark floor-shocker basslines and melodies so catchy you won t get them out of your head for weeks. on the remix front, a real special pairing: the legendary el-b moulds come bring it into a vintage garage banger, while beneath follows up recent tectonic & keysound releases with a hypnotic, sub-fuelled rework of you & me.

the inimitable swiss duo lnf gear up for action once more here on leo leals unike muzik imprint, as they join forces with the label head himself for the quite brilliant sounds of the the cellar ep. dark and broody but with a firm dancefloor persuasion, the ep is one that very much plays to the strengths of all involved.

jbla came into being after julian jöckel (midnightopera) and stuart argabright (ike yard, black rain, o13) performed at a party in brussels on the 5th of oct. 2012 on invitation from bernardo risquez & michael langeder (different fountains). they all had met for the first time the year before through michael kreitz from meakusma when different fountains & o13 played concerts in eupen. after staying at different fountains studio the day after the brussels event they set up a rather improvised jam session. julian played synth on a yamaha dx7, bernardo worked the low frequencies on an old eminent organ while michael contributed machine sounds and took care of the live fx engineering. stuart put together some words and brought a beat to the occasion of the jam session at the df studio. during the short euro tour with ike yard, l.i.e.s label head ron morelli and artist svengalisghost came to the paris show and were talking with stuart about the streetwalkers of belleville, specifically the sad chinese hookers out on the street. combined with news about recent foxxconn workers suicides in china and witnessing altercations close to the air bnb where he stayed. the belleville ep are two cuts from that session with remixes from ron morelli + svengalisghost and vereker, pressed on translucent vinyl.

blunted astronaut returns to its roots with an upcoming series of 7-inch drops out in the next few months. ghettosocks *everyday apocalypse* b/w *i ll be your dog* is the latest addition to its ever-expanding catalogue of vinyl releases. this translucent 7 inch, produced by dynamic duo the process (jonny cuba and ollie teeba (soundsci/the herbaliser), is bound to be another ba sure shot. rapid-fire flows, clever rhymes, cinematic production... it is all there to keep your head boppin for days. guest appearances by canadas timbuktu and muneshine add weight to this already heavy release.

gravitas, talib kwelis sixth solo album, began to take shape in may, during the weeks following the release of kwelis fifth solo album, prisoner of conscious. loaded with guests, prisoner of conscious was well received and reviewed, and gained talib many new fans to add to his already large following. however, kweli soon found himself wanting to record more personal material and really document his journey thru music. when singer ryan leslie, who created the platform that kweli is using to sell gravitas, approached him with the idea of selling direct to fan, songs that were just rough ideas began to fully form in kwelis head.

we have been a fan of motor city drum ensemble since the brooding and eerie >escape to nowhere< in 2007 - a track that sounded like someone had listened to > french kiss< on acid and then tried to recreate what they heard. so when we started re-issuing romanthonys classics with fresh remixes, mcdes danilo plessow was always someone we wanted to on the project. it has taken 2 years to organise this mix and now it is finally here it doesnt disappoint. taking on > trust<, most people would head straight for the vocal but plessow instead eschews that idea for a warm, low slung dub mix reminiscent of muzique tropique and early glasgow underground releases by studio blue. as a more dj-friendly alternative he also delivered a completely instrumental dub mix.

wonderwheel recordings is proud to present the remix 12 inch for alsarah & the nubatones. called the new star of nubian pop by the guardian, the album, silt was produced by alsarah who describes the sound of silt as east african retro pop – it is music that harkens back to the hazy sounds of 1960s and 70s nubian music with its haunting instrumentation, soaring vocal melodies, and pentatonic arrangements.
the original song *soukura* a small taste of the upcoming album silt (out on 3/11) gets a signature deep and entrancing ancestral soul remix by african house legend boddhi satva. perennial wonderwheel favorite the spy from cairo gives *nuba noutou* a dubby dancehall re-rub, and label head nickodemus takes *rennat* into late night house territory with his remix, letting only the slightest of vocals come through and build tension until the final moments of the tune.

in recent times soul notes tilted a little towards more groove driven, distortion ladenmachine funk. snx001 is the missing release out of the snx series thus far. label head honcho kastil joins up with cologne based adryiano, who is quickly becoming one of the labels favorite household names. the signature snx sounds is developing into a dark psych-oriented club sound which this ep represents as never before. the opening track *snakes and holes* is pure percussive machinery with the heaviest overdriven kickdrums you will ever hear. on the a2, adryiano sets the mood with a low swinging bass and some eardrum deafening kicks which progresses into the b1 which is perced out to the max with some 303 bassline drama and distortion to top that off. for the b2 track, head honcho kastil shows off some lo-fi drum action on controversy.

with a lengthy discography on influential imprints like his own sub static, triebstoff, dumb unit, contexterrior, and more, falko brocksieper has been a force in the development in deep, minimal sounds for a decade and a half. working alongside label co-head m.i.a., sub static and sublabel karloff released music from prestigious producers - rené breitbarth, mathew jonson, pan/tone, dj slip, shonky, and themselves - from 2001-2010 and established the lasting reputation of falko while identifying their label as a source of quality dancefloor ideas for its decade-long run.
